Our HERstory · Since 1993

A timeline of epic events.

A mother and daughter, a Pop Art gallery in Greenwich, and three decades of celebrations with icons, brands and families around the world.

Joyce Galley

Where it began

Joyce Galley was born to create.

Joyce came to NYC in the fun-filled '60s, hand-painting ladies on neckties sold in Times Square to make ends meet, before becoming a sketch artist and designer for fashion icon Oleg Cassini.

As a portrait artist she was commissioned by world leaders across the Middle East and Europe; many works now hang in national museums and private collections. Contacts there led her to produce documentaries with CBS, before returning to the States with her daughter Brett in the late '80s, looking for a new creative endeavor.

1993

Hollywood POP Gallery

Joyce and Brett — who was in art school — decided to join forces and open a Pop Art gallery in Greenwich, CT. Since Joyce's father was a movie producer and theater owner, they thought the word “Hollywood” should be in the name. HPG soon became a trendy place to enjoy all things “POP” — Pop Art, Pop-Tarts, Popcorn and Soda Pop!

The duo began renting the space for events, and Over-the-POP children's parties became its trademark. “Whatever you can imagine, we can create” became the slogan as they expanded HPG into an entertainment agency, event design and party planning company.

Creative director Christine Gavin, financier Alexandria Stroud and choreographer Tamara Schrader joined Team POP, and the rest is “HERstory.”

An Over-the-POP Experience

Hollywood POP's sophisticated, eclectic and theatrically designed events were catching on. By '97, HPG was in full swing with clients such as Diana Ross, Paul Tudor Jones, Bette Midler's Hulaween, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and many others.

While venue scouting at the iconic Tavern on the Green, Brett's enthusiasm and attention to detail gained management's notice, and she became in-house Entertainment Director. Warner LeRoy became an invaluable source of inspiration.

Rise to the POP

Joyce refocused on fine art and Brett took the helm as a solo endeavor, directing her energies to full-time design and production.

Celebrity bookings with the cast of The Sopranos, a private concert with Chubby Checker, five years of holiday parties with Whoopi Goldberg, thirteen years of Halloween extravaganzas for Paul Tudor Jones, events for the Yankees, Mets and Rangers, and an anniversary for Priceline.com featuring William Shatner capped off the '90s. Team POP began adding Destination Celebrations.

Once You POP, You Don't Stop

In the solemn aftermath of 9/11, the future of events felt uncertain. Six months later, HPG booked an Easter celebration at a private estate and continued onward.

A fundraiser for The Robin Hood Foundation featuring George Benson, a legendary birthday for Diana Ross in Malibu, five years of after-parties for Cirque du Soleil, events with Jon Bon Jovi, a groovy '70s party with Donna Summer and a 50th featuring Lucinda Williams. Photographer Jenny Kawa joined with her POP Flicks portrait shoots.

Hollywood POP Knows Talent

At the height of American Idol, POP booked a then-unknown Jennifer Hudson, just voted off the show. At a POP rehearsal she spoke of an upcoming audition — for the role in “Dreamgirls” that would win her an Oscar.

HPG began producing festival experiences for Excellence Charter School students, two events with Earth, Wind & Fire, and a milestone birthday with Olivia Newton-John.

Yes, We Can

The year kicked off in Mexico with a sensational 50th birthday and a private beach concert by Seal. Dennis DeYoung of Styx headlined a 45th, and HPG designed Robin Hood's “Young Executive” event and a celebration for the “I Have a Dream” Foundation.

HPG is forever grateful for the opportunity to produce a historic fundraiser for presidential candidate Barack Obama.

2010 – 2012

I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It

A Sweet Sixteen at The Capitol Theatre with a full concert from Katy Perry. A debutante ball at The New York Public Library. A Party City gala hosted by Mario Lopez. Tony Bennett at a supper-club milestone in Memphis, and a holiday party with John Mellencamp.

The company moved to a two-story design studio on Field Point Road in Greenwich, crowned with a cast-iron “Good Witch” weathervane — and Brett's daughter Ava Bronté joined Team POP as a junior member of “Hollywood Pop Kids.”

Je T'aime St. Barths

Hollywood POP launched Kenny Loggins and the Blue Sky Riders' debut tour in Chicago, hosted David Cook at Sylvia's in Harlem, a 50th with Smash Mouth, a destination celebration in St. Barths, and collaborated with Mindy Weiss on the wedding of Evan Ross and Ashlee Simpson.

A fundraiser for the USA Olympic teams continued an era of growth and innovation.

Welcome to The Gramercy

HPG opened its jewel of a venue in Gramercy Park, NYC — for corporate events, weddings, launches, film, TV and photo shoots — drawing Sophia Webster, Verizon, Moët, QVC, Katie Holmes, Nickelodeon, HBO, Saturday Night Live, and shows like “Billions,” “YOU” and “And Just Like That.”

Designing Save the Children's 100th Global Anniversary with Jennifer Garner, Camila Cabello, Little Big Town, Tommy Hilfiger, Hoda Kotb and Zendaya was the perfect ending to a decade of growth.
